Advice on Organising a Memorable Stag Event

Organising a stag party is an honour and a privilege, but at the same time can be a chore. It lands the person responsible with pressure to deliver a great event as people will remember a bad stag party longer than they will a good one.

There are several areas that need to be attended to when planning for your party, firstly how long will it be. The fashion in recent times is for a weekend of activities or at the very least a day of activities followed by food, beer and what ever else springs to mind.

Another important aspect of planning is to ensure that all the other group members are aware of how much it will cost as you don’t want anyone to be spending outside their price range because if someone is spending too much money this will be all that they will think about and therefore that person will not be able to properly enjoy the events.

Once you’ve got a good idea of your budget, the next step is to start looking at venues and activities. It is best to choose activities that everyone can join in with and enjoy, regardless of age, physical fitness/ailments etc. This will limit your choices but overall will result in a more enjoyable event if you think of the group as a whole.

The ideal venue will be close to some nightlife and will provide several activities. That way, you can plan Saturday’s activities and follow them up with a night out and stay at a local hotel, followed by gentler activities on the Sunday. Any activities that are energetic and active (or involve driving) it would be wise to plan for the Saturday so that when everyone is stricken with hangovers on the Sunday, only the lighter, more easy-going activities remain.

Preferably you would use a venue that runs several activities in one location, making the overall organisation much easier because you will only need to talk with one venue. Also, a multi-activity venue such as this is likely to have connections with local hotels, clubs and restaurants etc. simplifying your search dramatically.

To give an underlying theme to the whole weekend and you’re not just stringing together a load of random activities, it is a good idea to have a light competition running throughout the events. This competition will need to be arranged so that everyone in the party has an equal chance of winning. A good way to achieve this is to somehow handicap the people who you know are good at certain events to allow the newbies to play with equal ability. This will create a positive and friendly atmosphere even among the guests who don’t know each other all that well.

Something else to bear in mind is that the average age of people getting married is rising and so the athleticism of people attending stag parties is going down. You may therefore have some guests that are young and in their prime, but you may have some that are older and less active, and this is one of the things to take into account when planning activities that everyone can join in with.

It is difficult to decide between activities that will be really enjoyable to a few people and those that everyone will enjoy equally, however it is worth spending the time on making those decisions in order to organise a great stag event that is thoroughly enjoyed by all. Something else to consider is that the evening events should probably be split up for the sake of the older group members so that they can eat with the rest of the group, but then are free to depart if they want when the younger guests move on to a night club.
