There are tons of Russian women who want to find a prince and they feel they will find that by getting a Western man. So many different Russian dating sites are set up to attract these Western men and hopefully find either a husband, or someone they can scam.
One thing about the computer is that you never really know what the person you are talking to looks like. Well unless they have a webcam, but you can easily say sorry I don’t have a webcam. So in that case do you even know if you are talking to a real woman, and one who is from Russia?
The scams are based on trying to convince someone who is extremely lonely and dying to find a partner. A friend had this done to them, the girl, if she was actually a girl, convinced him that she was completely in love with him. Talked him into buying a visa for her and a plane ticket even. However before all the items could be purchased he noticed a huge difference in her. The emails she sent were becoming shorter than normal. Not only that but she didn’t seem as sweet in them.
A friend once met a girl on one of these Russian dating sites. They became close over a matter of months. He showed me some of the emails she had sent, plus the pictures of her. About that time, and just in time for tax return time in the US, she started pushing him to bring her overseas. Now this girl was in her 30′s and very good looking, and she worked as an accountant. Though it’s not known how much they make in Russia, accountants in the US make some damn good money.
Well when he balked at sending money, this girl completely changed her tone. Swearing and calling him ugly and all sorts of things. It’s odd how the lack of money will change a person so quickly. But it wasn’t only that, it was the picture that was her undoing. I say her lightly; this picture was posted on several other sites for Russian women, all with different names.
There are real Russian women who are striving to get out of their country. Real women who will make a man a great wife. All you need to do is check them out a bit. Look to make sure that you don’t find the same picture they claim is theirs in other places. They may be on more than one dating site, but the key is to check out the name, if it’s different, well you might have a bit of a problem.
So as a Western man looking for his dream girl on a Russian dating site, don’t give up yet. Just approach with a bit more caution than you might have once. Don’t accept everything at face value. And most of all don’t blindly trust when they ask for money, don’t send it, but check out the prices online of what they are asking for.
In closing, always check out a person who you feel you may have a connection with. Especially if they are located out of country. It’s not a pessimistic thing, but a way to keep your heart intact and not get hurt. It’s sad to say that many people love to run these scams.
