There are plenty of reasons that couples should really strive to stick together and help to stop divorce. The divorce rate as is happens to be a sad reminder of why relationships are failing and so is marriage. The institution of marriage is something that is so overly protected by the religious right that it makes it difficult for anyone who isn’t straight heterosexual couples to actually get married. So what is happening that is making so many straight couples end up in divorce court?
Perhaps one of the most influential reasons why couples get married so quickly now in days is societies view on relationships and the need for marriage. How often have you known a couple that has only been together a short time and is already constantly harassed by everyone about when they are going to “tie the knot”? We have apparently replaced the end goal of a relationship with marriage instead of happiness.
Why is it that we get married? Generally the answer to that question should be a desire to be with another for the duration of your life. However I am not sure that everyone really understands that or realizes just how long one life span really is.
A marriage shouldn’t be founded on the principles of young love, love due to a child, or a desire to make others happy instead of you. It is in these relationships that the marriage ends up failing and divorce is the only answer for these couples.
The people that really suffer the most during a divorce are the children. They are innocent bystanders in an ugly event that never is settled on good terms. They good pushed and pulled through the process then usually asked where it is that they want to live. This is a horrible question in itself. How are you supposed to answer that as a child? Of course they want to be with both of their parents but they are being asked to only pick one. Can you imagine what that is like if you haven’t been through the process yourself?
For these reasons couples really need to consider what it means to partake in marriage. They need to be ready to completely and utterly be there and be supportive of their spouse. They need to work to stop divorce.
