Can you remember what toy was your favorite back when you were a kid? Kid’s taste in toys change with each generation. We each had our favorite toys when we were young. My favorite was the yo yo. There was something about that little wooden wheel that was hypnotic. You could spend hours upon hours totally focused on getting the yo yo to do the latest trick you saw.
Who remembers the slinky? I wonder how many of those things were actually sold. But, I am willing to make a bet that it was in the millions. Some creating person invented this long spring like metal toy that was capable of walking down a set of steps all by itself. Would you ever have thought that something so incredibly simple would have become so ridiculously popular? I am sure he got rich off of that idea.
The Nintendo fitness game is bringing back the popularity of the hula hoop. Can you remember the last time you saw someone using a real one? I guarantee it was quite a while ago. These things could probably get you in shape if you got addicted to using one. It’s laughable how the simple toys were the ones that really caught on big time.
Who had a GI Joe doll when they were a kid? I hear the original ones are worth a bunch of money on the internet these days. There are probably a bunch of objects we played with as children that sell for a mint on the internet these days.
When I was a youngster, I remember everyone having a Lionel Train set around the Christmas tree. There were huge numbers of train fanatics. I knew a guy who had an entire town setup on plywood in his basement so he could work on the models all year round. I never quite understood what it was about trains that made them so popular.
How about those electronic football games with the vibrating board? Do you know the ones I mean? They had the little football players that you would setup on the green metal board. Then you turn the thing on and it vibrated. The vibrations made the guys move around the playing field. That thing was lousy compared to today’s games.
Who didn’t own an Etch A Sketch? I think these things are still popular. We were all aspiring artists. If you screwed a sketch up you could just shake it and tried again.
I bet you know someone who had some Lone Ranger objects. There were lots of Lone Ranger figurines. I can’t recall for sure, but I think there was a Tonto figurine as well. High ho silver.
