When you first meet the man you’re interested in, don’t show too much interest. Be polite, give hints of your attraction to him, but keep your cool. No matter how attracted you are to him and how much you want to be with him, keep yourself just barely out of his reach.

Many women find it too easy to gush all over a guy. They giggle at everything the guy says, flirt in an obvious way and practically cling to the guy once he gets within arms reach. Instead, try to make friendly eye contact, have an easy conversation with him, then when he asks to see you again, hesitate or perhaps even tell him you can’t, but that you’d like to see him another time.

This should be a tactic to maintain throughout the dating process. You should never have to cancel your own projects just to be with him. Not only will this keep him on his toes, he’ll actually admire the fact that you have so much going on in your life. There’s nothing duller than dating a woman who is just sitting by the phone. This can bring about a heap of pressure for him to entertain you and keep you occupied. No guy really wants to have that huge a role to play in your life.

It has come to be a regular practice for some women to quickly and efficiently whip out a business card and hand it over to the guy with the insistence he call her. This may appear very modern and liberated, even empowering, but while the woman is feeling empowered, he’s feeling like he’s just been cut at the knee.

Just remember not to push it too far. If you are constantly telling him no and always giving him the cold shoulder, he’ll come to conclude that you’re not interested in him at all. The key is to always give him just enough encouragement to keep him coming, but not enough to think he’s already won the game.

And the greatest benefit for you in all this is the opportunity you’ve had to really get to know what kind of guy he is. After all, if he’s just a player looking for a hot night of sex, he won’t bother chasing very long. But that really good man who is looking for a truly great woman will do everything he has to do to win you over.
