They say that if you want a happy marriage you should wear pearls on your wedding day.
The most classic of wedding jewellery are pearls. How do you choose the perfect Pearl Necklace Jewellery?
Pearls come in 4 different types: Tahitian, Akoya, Southsea and Freshwater. 3 of these types of pearls come from the ocean, the only one which does not if Freshwater pearls. The pearls that come from the sea are more valuable due to their rarity.
The most popular pearl is the Akoya pearl. These pearls are valued for their rich colour, mirror like finish, and appealing roundness.
As with any other gemstones, the value of pearls is determined by their quality.
The quality of pearls are on a scale starting from A and finishing at AAA+. If you have 2 pearl necklaces with the same size pearls then the one with the “AAA” quality pearls would be the most valuable.
The quality and value of pearls are based upon six criteria: luster, nacre, surface, colour, shape, size and matching.
Nacre: The pearls nacre thickness is very impoprtant when buying pearls. A pearl oyster produces a coating to the pearl nucleus and it is this that is classed as the nacre. A pearl will last longer with a thicker nacre. Pearls that last longer usually havce a nacre thickness over 0.4mm.
Luster and Surface: The amount of light reflected from the surface of the pearl is called the luster. Pearls with clean surfaces and high luster are the most desired.
Colour: When buying pearls and choosing a colour it is really down to what would suit your clothing ans skin tones.
Size: The size of a pearl increases in value the bigger they get, so it is really down to your own budget as to what you can afford.
Shape: Round pearls are most desirable and valuable.
Matching: When buying a pearl necklace jewellery set you will need to look for jewellery sets that have the pearls matching as near as possible. The more pearls that match in a piece of jewellery or jewellery set the higher the price will be, down to the difficulty of finding matching pearls.
Once you have made a decision on what you want it will all then just boil down to the budget that you have. Do plenty of research on the internet as prices can vary hugely and make sure you find the very best your budget can provide.
